Maximum Rock N Roll Review

Maximum Rocknroll review Who Can Belong

DEATHSKIN RAZORS- "Who Can Belong" CD

Rather than the faux-arty metallic crust suggested by the cover art, Detroit's DEATHSKIN RAZORS deliver crushing hardcore on the eleven-track Who Can Belong. Needless to say, this was a pleasant surprise for your CD-wary reviewer. I'm not really up on the latest bands from this end of the HC spectrum so i can't offer any contemporary comparisons, but DEATHSKIN RAZORS play a modern-sounding style that draws elements of the CRO-MAGS, INTEGRITY and even INFEST at times. In other words, heavy and brutal- but without a tough-guy macho element. (I'm not saying the songs are about flowers and holding hands, but they're not about beating down backstabbing ex-friends, either.) Break-downs abound. (CS) Read more:

OLD SCHOOL DETROIT SERIES - PART ONE

Ok...we all know that hardcore, punk and metal had thriving scenes in the early 1980's in the Metro Detroit area. No one will ever question the importance or greatness of those early bands. Their influence can still be heard around the world. But...what everyone always says is that somewhere around 1985 it all died. Maybe this was true in other cities, but there was no music drought in and around southeast Michigan. From the mid 80s to the mid 90s, bands in the Detroit area were still creating some of the best music around.

For the next 3-4 months, the "Smash The Silence" section of Spider Cuddler Records will be a tribute to those great bands. For those that were there, it's always good to hear these songs again. For those who were not old enough to be involved, you can check out what some of your favorite local bands were listening to when they were younger.

This month is COLD AS LIFE, SOCIAL SCARE, UNCLEAN, SKRAPS & HERESY.
